Week 9: Refreshing and fun-filling!

11 Sep
Hi. This week’s technology class was a pure bliss! But this doens’t mean that we can just sit around chit-chating or "facebooking", but we have to start doing our next assignment, which is the video kit!
This was the first time where all my group members got the time to sit down and discuss our plans for the kit. Initially, we had some ideas on how to package our videos, and we also brainstormed on how we should attach our videos and the details to the kit. But we’ve got our concept wrong! Luckily, Ms Ng came to rescue and she had clarified our doubts by listing down what we should include in our video kit. It was only then that we realised that we had overlooked the most important aspect, which was TEACHING MATERIALS!!! Teaching materials are vital because video can’t be used solely for the whole lesson, and I’m sure pupils will be bored if they spend the whole period watching the same video over and over again. Therefore, it is crucial to have other supportive materials that can help to further consolidate what pupils have grasped from the video. The word "kit" refers to a packaged set of related materials. Thus, our video kit should consist of not one but a set of related materials.
Now that we were clear on what to do, we had come up with a few ideas. Since there was a video about Mathematics: how to count, we deemed that it would be nice if we modify the game "Snack and Ladder". The game is simple and it is children’s all time favourite! Besides that, this game also integrates the concept of counting and it could be easily implemented in the classroom. As for the other videos, perhaps we will design some computer-based tasksheets or some hands on activities for pupils to work on. Since our videos focused on lower primary pupils, thus the materials should be less complicated and more appealing.
This is what we have discussed so far. Hopefully we can produce a good video kit which will help to educate and inspire the 21st century learners 🙂 And thanks to our lecturers for their kindness to extend the dateline for this assignment. I also realise that we should not procrastinate and should embark on the journey of developing our video kit soon! I will update our progress from time to time, so look forward for my "TRILOGY entries series" ya 🙂

Good insight into what needs to be done. I hope the others will learn the lesson from your group. Good luck! I suppose snack & ladder would be an interesting game… looking forward to it.
